Discover the Swedish Approach: Holiday Camps for Primary Students in Geneva
At the Swedish International School of Geneva, we believe that school holidays should be a time of ease for parents and wonder for children. We know that for our working families, having a reliable, nurturing environment is essential, which is why our holiday camps are designed to provide consistent care that feels like a home away from home.
Our campus in Meyrin is perfectly situated to serve as a launchpad into the cultural heart of Geneva. With such easy access to the city’s rich heritage, we are able to bridge the gap between the classroom and the wider world. During our recent camp for primary school students, we took full advantage of this by visiting the historic Geneva chocolatier, Favarger, where students observed the dedication and craft of local masters.
Culinary Superstars and Dessert Masters
This experience is a beautiful reflection of the Home and Consumer Studies syllabus within the Swedish National Curriculum. The goal is to help students develop a deep understanding of food and meals by linking sensory experiences with practical action. Our young culinary superstars spent the week as "Dessert Masters," exploring textures and flavours while turning everyday ingredients into works of art.
From whipping up sweet treats to attending an exclusive chocolate workshop with a professional, the children built their confidence as they saw their hard work transform into delicious creations.
Familiar Faces and Consistent Care
Because our camps are staffed by our regular After School team, there is a wonderful sense of calm for both students and parents. Seeing familiar faces ensures a seamless transition from the school term to the holiday period, maintaining the "Red Thread" of care and stability we value so highly.
The Grand Finale: A Pop-Up Tea Room
The experience reached a joyful conclusion with our Pop-Up Tea Room. It was a heartwarming moment to see our students proudly serve their handmade creations to their families in an ephemeral space they styled themselves. We place great value on this close cooperation between home and school, as it creates a supportive circle around every child and allows students to experience the satisfaction of being an asset to their community.
By combining the convenience of local access with the depth of the Swedish pedagogical approach, our holiday camps ensure that students continue their holistic learning journey through meaningful, real-world experiences.
