Beyond the Classroom: SISOG’s Overnight Adventures

At SISOG, we believe that education should inspire curiosity, independence, and a meaningful connection to the world around us. That’s why our curriculum is deeply influenced by the Swedish national curriculum, which emphasizes experiential learning, outdoor education, and the development of social and practical life skills.

Our overnight trips, starting from 3P, are a direct extension of this approach. They are not simply school excursions, but thoughtfully planned learning experiences that bring our values and curriculum to life. Each trip gives students the opportunity to apply classroom learning in real-world settings, fostering personal growth, teamwork, and a stronger sense of responsibility.

This past year, our students embarked on two remarkable trips that perfectly captured the heart of what we do at SISOG. For our new families, this is a glimpse into one of the most memorable and meaningful aspects of our school year.

La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland: Life on the Farm

Our 3P and 4P (Middle Primary) classes travelled to La Ferme Sterchi, a working farm in the hills of La Chaux-de-Fonds. This immersive trip offered students a hands-on look at sustainable agriculture, animal care, and traditional food production—key themes connected to the Swedish curriculum’s focus on nature, science, and home economics.

Students spent time with cows, calves, chickens, rabbits, and other farm animals, and learned to make butter and bread from scratch. They even slept in straw, embracing life on the farm fully. This experience helped children understand where their food comes from, the importance of hard work, and the beauty of living in rhythm with nature.

Saint Jorioz, France: Nature, Movement, and Global Citizenship

Our Upper Primary (5P and above) visited Le Pré du Lac in Saint Jorioz, where the focus was on physical education, environmental studies, and global responsibility. Students explored local ecosystems, engaged in team sports and outdoor activities, and reflected on their role as global citizens—all integral parts of the Swedish curriculum's emphasis on health, movement, and ethics.

Being in nature encouraged mindfulness, cooperation, and self-awareness. Through these shared experiences, students deepened their understanding of sustainability and developed practical skills they can carry forward in school and life.

Rooted in SISOG Values and the Swedish Curriculum

These overnight trips are powerful moments of learning, growth, and connection. They reflect both our SISOG values and our commitment to the Swedish educational model, which prioritizes the whole child—not just academic success, but emotional, social, and ethical development.

For returning families, these trips are treasured highlights of the school year. For new parents, we hope this gives you insight into how SISOG goes beyond the classroom—connecting curriculum, nature, and community to offer an education that truly prepares students for life.

We’re proud to create these moments where children knead bread on a Swiss farm, hike through French forests, and discover their place in a bigger world. These are the experiences that shape confident, curious, and compassionate learners—and that is the heart of SISOG.
