The "SISOG Cocoon": How Our Parents See Our Preschool
Parents were asked to describe their thoughts about the Preschool at SISOG.
Our recent Open House coffee morning was a special one. It brought together two parts of our world: our current preschool families looking ahead to the Primary years, and brand new families exploring SISOG for the first time. This mix created a unique atmosphere for conversation.
We asked our current parents to share a few words to describe their SISOG Preschool experience. For new families, it was a chance to hear directly from the community. For us, it was a powerful affirmation of our mission.
The notes quickly filled with words like 'Nature,' 'Community,' 'Empathy,' 'Bilingual,' and 'Inclusive.' One parent even wrote 'Cocoon,' perfectly capturing the safe, nurturing environment we work so hard to create.
This feedback is more than just a collection of kind words; it is a clear reflection of our school's mission and the 'red thread' of our curriculum.
An Education Rooted in Nature
The most frequent word from parents was 'Nature.' This is not surprising. The Swedish Pedagogical Approach is nature-focused, and we provide individualized, project-based learning connected to the outdoors. When parents see their children 'exploring' or on 'outdoor adventures,' they are seeing our curriculum in its most active form. Daily outdoor time is essential, allowing children to develop creativity, self-confidence, and a respect for the environment.

A Community of Empathy and Inclusion
The second major theme was 'Community.' Parents used words like 'Strong Community,' 'Inclusive,' and 'Empathy.' These words are the pillars of our official school values. We aim to be a collective 'organised for the good of the whole'. This feeling of safety and belonging allows children to build self-esteem and develop an openness and respect for the diverse, multicultural world we live in.
Learning to be Independent
Finally, parents recognized the outcome of this approach with words like 'Independence,' 'Autonomous,' and 'Learn by Play.' Our mission is to nurture 'happy, creative and independent children'. We do this by encouraging them to take initiatives, solve problems, and discover their own potential.
We are so grateful to our parents for this feedback. It reassures us that our commitment to the Swedish Pedagogical Approach is not just a plan, but a reality our families can see and feel every day.
