SISOG Primary is Officially a Certified "Generation Pep School" 2026
We are thrilled to share some exciting news with our SISOG community. Following two years of dedicated work to enhance our learning environment, the Swedish International School of Geneva (SISOG) has officially been granted the Generation Pep Certification 2026.
This prestigious recognition highlights our systematic efforts to integrate physical activity and healthy eating into our students’ daily lives. At SISOG, we maintain a calm, purposeful environment that nurtures high academic curiosity. We believe that a student’s physical, mental, and social well-being is not just a "bonus," but the essential fuel for a lifelong love of learning.
What is the Generation Pep Initiative?
Generation Pep is a Swedish non-profit initiated by the Swedish Crown Princess Couple. Its mission is to bridge the gap between knowledge and action regarding the health of children and young people.
Background and Importance
The 2024 Pep Report revealed that only two out of ten children and adolescents meet the World Health Organization (WHO) recommendation of at least 60 minutes of physical activity per day. To support schools in their health initiatives, Generation Pep offers a free tool; schools that actively work with this tool have been eligible for certification since autumn 20208. All schools receiving the 2026 certification will celebrate at their respective locations, with a special focus during the month of May.
To become a certified "Pep School," an institution must meet rigorous criteria and demonstrate a long-term commitment to active school days and nutritious food habits.
At the heart of this commitment is our belief in the "Love of Learning". When students are nourished and active, their natural curiosity flourishes. By following these evidence-based guidelines, we join a movement dedicated to making healthy living a natural part of every child's day.
“We are very happy that so many schools want to take the lead and get involved in the health of their students. The school is the arena that has the opportunity to reach all children, and is also today a place where many children get moving. The fact that we can now certify the school’s work feels absolutely fantastic. A certification means that the entire school has taken action and that all parts of the school are really there to support the students to better physical health and that the work is part of the systematic quality work, says ”
Our Commitment to the "Whole Child"
Over the past two years, we have introduced several strategic enhancements to our school day, harmonizing our Swedish pedagogical roots with the Generation Pep framework. These initiatives are designed to nurture both the body and the inner spark of curiosity:
Brain Breaks: Purposeful movement pauses during lessons that reset focus and renew mental energy.
Active Recess: Organized activities that foster physical vitality and social inclusion, reminding students that learning happens everywhere, not just at a desk.
Nutritional Focus & Pedagogical Meals: We integrate healthy eating into our routines through pedagogical lunches and snacks. Educators guide students in making nutritious choices while fostering social connection.
Becoming a Pep School is a proud validation of our dedication to ensuring every student has the foundation to thrive, explore, and excel. By combining this health initiative with the expertise of our teachers, our SEN Team, and school leadership, SISOG continues to show that student well-being is an integral part of our quality work.
We look forward to continuing this journey with your children!
