L’Escalade: Sharing Soup, Stories, and Community Across All Ages
There are some days when our school community truly shines, and the annual Fête de l’Escalade is always one of them. It's a joyful, hands-on way for us to connect with the traditions of Geneva, the vibrant city that is home to SISOG.
This year, the celebration perfectly showcased our core values of Community and Empathy. Every student and staff member played a part, creating a tapestry of shared learning from our youngest classes, all the way up to our Upper Primary students (5P-8P).
The Joy of Mixed-Age Learning
A beautiful tradition at SISOG is seeing how our older students nurture and connect with the younger ones. This year, our primary students took on the important role of reading the tale of Mère Royaume to the younger classes. Watching the deep concentration and care in these mixed-age groups, the empathy in action, is a testament to the holistic view of the child that defines the Swedish Pedagogical Approach.
A Collaborative Feast
The learning was truly hands-on and experiential. We all worked together to prepare the traditional soupe de l’Escalade, with students proudly bringing in their home-grown or market-bought vegetables. The spirit of collaboration extended all the way to lunchtime when our Middle Primary students decided to take their bowls outside and enjoy their nutritious soup al fresco!
The excitement peaked with the ceremonial smashing of the chocolate Marmite, a moment of pure fun that ties the history lesson together with a sweet reward. It was a lovely, warm day that reminded us of the strength and joy in our united SISOG community.
We believe these shared cultural experiences are key to preparing our children for an interconnected world, instilling in them a deep Love of Learning and respect for the world around them.
